Statement of Purpose

At Kai Ming Daycare Center, our faculty and staff dedicate ourselves to helping your child(ren) grow physically, intellectually, and socially. We promise to strive in understanding and fulfilling both your needs and your child(ren)’s needs.

Curriculum

We know that at each stage of life, children take on special developmental tasks and challenges related to their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. At the Kai Ming Daycare Center, we create the suitable and comfortable environment for your child(ren) to take on these developmental tasks, ensuring them security as they take the journey through their stages in life.

Standards for Classroom Conducts

Our faculty and staff are obligated to follow these rules:

1. First and foremost, the health and safety of the children
2. Professional attires and appropriate attitudes will be worn and employed by the faculty and staff
3. Children will always be supervised and monitored at all times
4. The proper guidance of children will not include physical or emotional abuse of any kind

Health and Health Concerns

Child(ren) ill with fever, vomiting, diarrhea, unknown cough, or rash will not be permitted into the center. Child(ren) carrying contagious illnesses, such as chicken pox, will not be permitted into the center.  If illness develops in the duration of the child(ren)’s stay at the daycare center, the child(ren) will be isolated and cared for to the best of the staff and faculty’s abilities until parent(s) of child(ren) are contacted. This is all supervision of staff.

Medication

Medications have to be enlisted and approved by the child(ren)’s physician in a written statement. We encourage parents to give their children the needed medications prior to coming into the daycare center. However, if administration of medication is necessary during daycare hours, the child(ren)’s name, dosage, and number of times should be clearly marked on medication vials. In addition, parents should sign a written letter stating that he/she gives Kai Ming Daycare Center faculty and staff permission to administer the medication to his/her child(ren).

· The doctor’s order and the label must include the name of the child, specify the dosage, number of times per day and the number of days the medication is to be administered.
· All medication is kept in its original labeled container, with the child’s name, the name of the drug and directions for its administration and storage.
· A written record is maintained of the administration of any medication, prescription or nonprescription to each child, including the time and date of each administration, the dosage, the name of the staff member administering the medication and the name of the child. The complete medication record is part of the child’s health fire.
· All medication is stored under proper conditions for sanitation, preservation, security and safety. All unused medication is disposed of or returned to the parent when no longer needed.
· Medication is transported to school only by adults, not in a child’s backpack, pockets, etc.

Hygiene

To ensure health safety and cleanliness, faculty, staff, and children must wash their hands with soap and running water:
-after diapering
-after toileting
-before and after any handling with food
-after coming in contact with blood or bodily fluids
-after touching animals

Diaper Changing

Parents should bring an extra change of clothes for the child in case of soil accidents. Soiled or wet clothing are handled individually and double bagged to ensure its cleanliness. Disposable diapers are properly stored and removed from the daycare center on a daily basis. Diaper areas are also separate from the food preparation areas to ensure hygiene.

What should be in a Daily Diaper Bag
-5 to 6 disposable diapers
-A complete changing of clothes
-A pacifier with your child(ren)’s name on it, if necessary

Toileting

Children are supervised and assisted if necessary in the bathroom. Both children and staff will wash hands with running water and soap after each toilet use. Individual towels are used to dry hands.

Meal Times

In order to promote proper nutrition in the children, we provide fully balanced meals that adhere to the nutritional pyramid.
Breakfast is served from 8:00am to 8:45am. Lunch is served at 12:00pm and snack time at 3:00pm. However, these times are not restricted depending on the child(ren)’s special needs.

Safety Environment/Field Trip Procedures/Emergency Care
Our faculty and staff conduct safety checks on a daily basis. Our center director conducts a full and proper safety check every month. First aid kits are stored and restored appropriately.

Safety precautions are taken for field trips also. Signed permission slips are need to authorize the child(ren)’s field trips. Those without a signed permission slip provided prior to the field trip will stay behind at the daycare center under a faculty or staff’s supervision. All this will ensure the safe area necessary for the children to grow emotionally and physically.

The playground is on Swan Street in Everett, Ma which is about an 8 minute walk. The library, Frederick Rick E. Parlin Memorial Library, is on 781 Broadway Street in Everett, Ma. 617-394-2308.

Faculty and staff will be carrying portable first aid kits to the field trips and to neighborhood park (Swan Park). In case of an emergency during a field trip, a faculty or a staff member will contact the child(ren)’s parent(s). If necessary, we are fully trained on first aid and CPR to ensure your child(ren)’s safety.

Emergency Evacuation

All staff and volunteers are trained in emergency evacuation procedures. In the case of an emergency, all volunteers and parents MUST follow the directions of the Kai Ming Daycare staff. In case of an emergency, someone at the number 617-775-8820 (Kai Ming Daycare Center Number) will assist the caller in any way possible or 911. It is also essential that parents update phone numbers, cell phone numbers and the name and phone number of emergency contacts as soon as numbers have been changed.
